A descriptive study of Forcefully Displaced Myanmar Nationals (FDMN) presenting for care at public health sector hospitals in Bangladesh

Background In 2017 hundreds of thousands ‘Rohingya’ fled to camps for Forcefully Displaced Myanmar Nationals (FDMN) in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.Objective To describe the FDMNs presenting care at public health facilities Bangladesh so as understand problems faced by and burden on these facilities.Methods This study combined a retrospective review existing hospital clinic data with prospective surveillance government centres.Findings The showed 26% increase number consultations Kutupalong community clinic, primary facility closest camps, from 19,567 2015 26,309 2019. There was corresponding 11% admissions area, 80,991 91,424 Prospective 9,421 seeking July 2018 December 2019 that 29% had an infectious disease, 20% nutritional problems, 12% pregnancy-related conditions 7% trauma or injury.Conclusions Great uncertainty remains regarding return FDMN their home country Myanmar. current on-going protests following military coup adds further insecurity status Rohingya. presence large migrant population relative smaller host burdens limited resources sector. Continued support international civil society organizations is needed.
